Neo-Futurists Launch Genre-Defying Multimedia Drag Show WILDCATS

Neo-Futurists announce the first live broadcast since the COVID shutdown. Created by Ensemble members Ida Cuttler and Nick Hart, WILDCATS is a multimedia drag show exploring themes of loneliness and isolation through the true story of Lucille Ball’s disastrous 1960 Broadway debut. by Halena Kays, WILDCATS is jam-packed with stage performances, personal storytelling, audience interaction and recreations of bizarre filmed I Love Lucy episodes.

“Everyone knows I love Lucy. Not many people know about Lucille Ball’s first and only attempt at performing on Broadway – which was a stunning flop.” adds art director KR Riiber. “WILDCATS reveals this dark moment in history at a time when we are all emerging from quarantine and trying to come back into the light.”

“WILDCATS will not only appeal to I Love Lucy fans, but it will also be accessible to people who have never heard of the sitcom,” said creator Ida Cuttler. “The show will be of particular appeal to people looking to reflect on and connect with their experience of the pandemic and loneliness in a lighthearted, comedic, sometimes irreverent way.”

The Neo-Futurist Theater‘s digital work created since March 2020 has received critical acclaim, including Chicago Tribune’s “Best Shows of the Pandemic” and New York Times Critics’ Choice. WILDCATS is a hybrid of stage theater and sitcom-style film, offering a glimpse into the Neos’ digital work as part of their highly anticipated return to the stage.

WILDCATS debuts May 2 and runs Thursday through Saturday until May 28. WILDCATS is part of the 2021/2022 season which, among other things, is a live digital hybrid season that will also include the annual Queer Pride performance by the Neo-Futurists of The Infinite Wrench, workshop performances of the all-original musical elements of Member Style by the Trent Creswell Ensemble and weekly performances of Chicago’s oldest late-night show, The Infinite Wrench.
