Cast Bios

Nico is absolutely thrilled to play the role of Wendla in this semester’s production of Spring Awakening! They are juniors at Brandeis majoring in English and drama and hail from Nashville, Tennessee. Nico has been an active member of the Brandeis theater community throughout his time here, including the 2022 Orlando Department of Theater Arts production (together), several Undergraduate Theater Collective productions such as Team Starkid’s Firebringer ( Grunt), 24-Hour Musical Camp Rock (Kevin Jonas) and Hold Thy Peace’s Macbeth (Banquo). While at MLK Magnet High School, Nico participated in numerous musicals and performances, including Hairspray (Corny Collins), Once on This Island (Papa Ge), and Lin-Manuel Miranda’s In the Heights (Abuela Claudia). Nico would like to thank his friends and family for coming out to support them, and for the endless love and community they provide. They hope you enjoy the show!

Gianni Storti

Gianni is a freshman and is more than excited to perform at his first show at Brandeis. He plans to major in psychology with a minor in theater arts. Since college, he has participated in several musicals, as an actor and director. Outside of theater, he enjoys beatboxing, going out for brunch, and watching animated movies. Gianni would like to warmly thank the entire distribution and production team of spring awakening for making his first production at Brandeis so amazing!

Nicholas Kanan

Nicholas is a senior at Brandeis University. He is honored to participate in Spring Awakening (his favorite show) and to make his departmental debut. He was previously seen on the Brandeis Stage in the production of Hold Thy Peace by macbeth (King Duncan), in the original musical Our day Will Come (Samuel Ward), and in Freeplay’s Cabaret (master of ceremonies). Outside of Brandeis, he has made frequent appearances in productions with the SUNY Orange Apprentice Players, including Almost, Maine by John Cariani (Dave), spring awakening by Frank Wedekind (Melchior Gabor), and more! He would like to thank his family and friends for their support, his amazing cast mates, everyone on the production team, and the Brandeis Theater Department, for giving him the opportunity to play a role he always has. dream. La Niyah SK Grovell

LaNiyah is ECSTATIC to be part of her first department show at Brandeis – spring awakening!! A freshman from Georgia, she is proud to have been the first statewide winner as well as the second national winner of the Next Narrative Monologue competition. Along with this, LaNiyah has acted in musicals and performs at various venues in Atlanta including the Tony Award Winning Alliance Theater. Some of her favorite roles include Matron Mama Morton in ChicagoMotormouth Maybelle in hairspray, and part of the ensemble cast of The Palefsky Collision Project. Her appreciation and dedication to acting comes from her #1 fan (and mother) Shauna C. Grovell. With plans to major in acting, LaNiyah is excited to continue pursuing her passion for the arts!

Jessica Umanoff

Jessica is a senior at Brandeis University, double majoring in Theater Arts and Sociology. Jessica has performed at multiple venues in New York City, the Greater New York Area, Europe and Massachusetts. Off Broadway: Dark Heart: an original musical59E59 St. Theatres, NYC and St. Augustine’s Church at the 2016 Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Regional: power play, Boston Artists Theater, Boston Center for the Arts. Other credits include: The Laramie Project (several roles), Little Red and the Wolf (Original US cast, narrator), alone together (Britney) Pippin apple (the peasant, together). Jess is incredibly grateful to share Ilse’s story and to be a part of such an important piece.

Liam Delaney

This is Liam’s first show at Brandeis and he’s thrilled to be a part of it. At Brandeis, he plans to double major in theater arts and music. Acting has always been a big part of Liam’s life, so he’s grateful for the many opportunities Brandeis provides and looks forward to taking advantage of them. Outside of theatre, Liam enjoys reading, playing instruments, saving money and spending time with friends.

Reese Miller

Reese is a sophomore from Chattanooga, TN studying sociology, film, and legal studies. Reese is an avid Atlanta Braves fan and a member of Proscenium a cappella.

Alyssa Allen

Alyssa is a junior at Brandeis studying education, psychology, theater arts, and legal studies. Alyssa is also a member of Up The Octave, one of the acapella groups on campus. She is Vice President of the Undergraduate Theater Collective (The UTC) and has been seen in on-campus productions with Fireside Theater Company and UTC such as: Rumors (Biscuit), Our day Will Come (Molly) and as one of the assistant directors of bringer of fire: Musical comedy. Alyssa would like to thank all of the cast and crew for their hard work and for being so great to work with. She hopes you enjoy this performance!

Cam Steinberg

Cam is a freshman at Brandeis and is incredibly excited to perform in his first show on campus! He plans to take a major in computer science and business and a minor in music. Music, and by extension musical theatre, has always been an important part of his life and he has been performing since his early high school years. Outside of the theatre, he loves to play guitar, drink coffee and play volleyball with friends! Cam is beyond thrilled to share this show with the public and would like to give a big thank you to the cast and production team of spring awakening for making his first Brandeis show such an amazing experience!

Laya Fridman

Laya is a second-year theater arts student and is thrilled to play Anna in spring awakening! Laya is one of the UDRs in the theater department, a member of the board of directors of Fireside Theater Company and a member of the musical theater Proscenium acapella. Notable credits include Sasha in Orlandoemma in Our day Will Comeand Hermia in A midsummer night’s dream.

Anika Hahn

Anika is thrilled to play Otto in Spring Awakening. This is their second show with the Brandeis Theater Arts Department, having served as a cast member and dance captain of the department’s dance/movement play. In the void. They also did several shows at clubs on campus, including Our day Will Come (a new work) and Dream of a summer night. They are a dancer/actor/singer from Minnesota and are grateful for the support of friends and family.

Brooks Bellinger

Brooks is a sophomore at Brandeis and plans to major in musical performance. This is her first show with the Brandeis Performing Arts Department. He is originally from Oregon and was in The Wizard of Oz and musical high school throughout high school. He is grateful for the love and support of his friends, family, cast and crew on the show.

Cierra Boutin

Cierra is a current junior hailing from the alligator country of Gainesville, Florida. She is majoring in Anthropology with minors in Legal Studies and Hispanic Studies. On campus, she is also involved with Brandeis’ hip hop team Kaos as Executive Director and as Producer of the Undergraduate Theater Collective. She loves the message of this show and hopes the audience finds it not only in children but also in adults. Because in the end we all, sometimes, become blind.
